UPLiFT General Assembly 2013. This year's General Assembly was held last December 4 at the Trophy Room of the Manila Polo Club in Makati City. The event was an opportunity to inform the members of the GA of the accomplishments and activities of the organization. During the gathering, the members were able to examine and assess the current position of UPLiFT, exchange ideas and plan on future steps to be taken for the expansion of UPLiFT's operation and network.

Another objective of the event was to elect members of the BOT. In the end, the body decided to maintain all the members of the existing BOT, and still under the leadership of BOT Pres. Edouard Miailhe.

UPLiFT Partner is National Winner of the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards 2013. Enrico Fojas, an UPLiFT Partner from Hagonoy, Bulacan, bested 107 nominees from all over the country to win the 2013 National Award during the 11th year of the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards. Mr. Fojas started with UPLiFT in August 2008 with an initial loan of PhP5,000 to finance his business called Cookie Mill Feeds. At present, he is now known to be one of the biggest suppliers of cookie mill feeds in Hagonoy and other nearby municipalities of Bulacan.

During the awarding ceremony held last December 3 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Fojas received a trophy, PhP200,00 in cash, a laptop, a training scholarship and an insurance policy as prizes. In his acceptance speech, he said, “This award is dedicated to my family, my workers, UPLiFT and my community who have helped me grow. I would also like to thank Citi Foundation, Citi Philippines, BSP, and MCPI for organizing this program. I hope that their faith in us never wanes.”

Winners of the Handog Pasasalamat Raffle Promo. As part of its 20th Anniversary celebration, UPLiFT offered a raffle promo exclusive to its Partners, giving them a chance to win exciting prizes which included 5 motorcycles, 10 cellphones and 2 refrigerators. UPLiFT Celebrates its 20th Anniversary!. UPLiFT held its 20th Anniversary celebration at the Convenarium of Crossoad 77 in Quezon City last August 23. The dinner event was also UPLiFT's way of thanking its stakeholders for the support and patronage that they had given to the organization.

UPLiFT Summer Outing 2013. For this year's summer outing, the organization headed south to Tanza Oasis Hotel and Resort in Tanza, Cavite for a much needed R&R last June 07.

The employees had a great time swimming in the pool, singing videoke, playing basketball and volleyball.
It was also an occasion for the staff, coming from the different programs (areas), to bond and get to know each other better, especially the new ones.
Bataan Program Officially Opens. UPLiFT has started operating in Bataan last February 2013 with the opening of 3 branches namely Balanga, Dinalupihan and Lubao. Although the latter is actually part of Pampanga, it is for now under Bataan Program.

The Program Office is located in Dinalupihan at #07 Payumo St., Brgy. San Ramon.
UPLiFT Partners Attend Citibank-Bayan Entrep-Eskwela Program. Eleven UPLiFT MEL partners became part of the 9th Batch of participants in the Citibank-Bayan Entrep-Eskwela Program. Classes started last March 20, 2013 and ends on April 12, 2013.

Entrep-Eskwela or the Grassroots Entrepreneurship and Management (GEM) program especially designed for micro and small entrepreneurs. GEM is a complete course on entrepreneurship covering three major areas: Self-Mastery, Enterprise Mastery and Situation Mastery. The learning tools and materials are highly interactive and visually appealing. GEM assists its participants, mostly small microfinance clients, in learning the various facets of enterprise management –including managing themselves, with courses that are relevant and responsive to the learning preferences of the masses.
UPLiFT Partners and CBDS Staff Attend Negosyanteng Pinay Workshop. Six UPLiFT Partners and four CBDS Staff attended the Negosyanteng Pinay: Paunlarin ang Kakayahan ng Negosyanteng Pilipina (Filipina Entrepreneur: A Path for Women Micro-Entrepreneurship), a workshop conducted by ASSIST Asia, in partnership with IIX Asia and Shujog, last March 14 at The Great Eastern Hotel in Quezon City. This workshop is aimed to help improve the financial literacy of Filipina micro-entrepreneurs and to help them become more sustainable and independent from their support organizations, which includes MFIs.

Aside from improving their financial literacy, the participants were also given tips on how to effectively grow their business and their profits, as well as, how to be able to access a wider range of human and financial resources. During open forums, the participants were able to share their personal experiences as micro-entrepreneurs, which could help develop other non-financial skills such as leadership, self-confidence and creating good relationship with other people.
ME Naman na Naman! 2013. In celebrating their seven years of lifting lives through microfinance, PinoyME hosted ME Naman, Na Naman! Pinoy Microentrepreneurs Convention last March 7-8, 2013 and brought together successful microentrepreneurs to share experiences, attain new knowledge to contribute to the further success of their business, and to connect them to bigger markets. Three UPLiFT Partners represented the organization in the said event, namely: Nelvie Gabinete, Susanie Lagos and Amy Batiancila.

Key business leaders gave talks and practical tips to inspire and help the MEs in growing their enterprise. Representatives from the government, business, academe, and development organizations were also invited to attend.
UPLiFT Partners Join DSWD Exhibit 2013. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) celebrated its 62nd anniversary in public service this year 2013. To commemorate the event, a week-long series of activities started last January 28 with the theme, “DSWD @ 62: Sama-Samang Husay Tungo sa Tagumpay.”

As part of the celebrations, the Sustainable Livelihood Program Exhibit was held inside DSWD’s Central Office at Batasan Hills in Quezon City. This featured products from different community-based enterprises, such as native handicrafts, shoes, bags, food preserves and household cleaning products.

UPLiFT’s CBDS unit organized a group of Partners to join the exhibit. Their products included clocks, laminated belts, baskets and pots for plants and accessories made from recycled pages of phone directories, magazines and newspapers.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman said that after more than six decades of public service “DSWD vows to continue its tradition of excellent public service by strengthening partnerships with various sectors to ensure that programs and services that address the needs of the poor and those most deserving of government assistance will be delivered.”
UPLiFT Christmas Party 2012. UPLiFT held its 2012 Christmas Party last December 14 at Patio Ybarra along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City. The 80’s themed party was dubbed “Fashionistas ng Dekada Otsenta”. The event was well-participated by the staff who came in their colorful attires inspired by famous 80’s icons, including (but not limited to) Madonna and Cyndi Lauper for the ladies, and the boygroups Bagets and Menudo for the gents.
The ED gave his opening speech, an encouraging one, and this was followed by another inspirational talk coming from a member of the Board, Tita Babes Estrada. Highlight of the event was the annual Inter-Program Dance Contest which was won by the Manila Program for the 3rd time in a row!
A lot of prizes were also raffled, the food that was served was great but it was the company of friends and colleagues that really made the evening.
2012 Organizational Assessment and Planning. UPLiFT conducted a workshop to assess its present status based on accomplishment reports and survey results (both internal and external perceptions). This was held at Sitio Lucia Resort in Sta. Maria, Bulacan last October 24-25, 2012.
Mr. Edmon Sison, the Executive Director, gave the welcome remarks which set the tone and the flow of events for the 2-day affair. Managers from the different UPLiFT Areas presented the accomplishments reports for the year and the results of the perception surveys, which also served as jump off point for discussions. Mr. Ed Garcia, a member of the Board and former ED of Microfinance Council of the Phil., facilitated the workshops.
The entire process of took a hard look at the organization's current state, who are its target market, where it wants to go, and determined its strategies on how it will get there.
UPLiFT Partners Join Quezon City Micro and Small Entrepreneurs' Trade Show 2012. The Quezon City Micro and Small Entrepreneurs Trade Show opened last October 8, 2012 at the Quezon City Hall Plaza covered walk. The activity, organized by the Sikap Buhay Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Office of the city government, was part of the city’s 73rd Founding Anniversary celebrations.

Now on its 2nd year, the Entrep Show presented products and services of QC-based micro and small entrepreneurs for both retail and order-taking purposes. The theme of this year's Entrep Show was "Tibay, Husay at Ganda ng Produkto at Serbisyong QC".

A group of UPLiFT Partners from the QC Program, organized by the CBDS unit, were able to showcase their products during the event. Some of their products were native baskets, bamboo curtains and dividers, bags and accessories, pastries, sandals and also, items made of recycled paper.

The event recognized the contribution of Micro and Small Enterprises, which play a critical role in our economy, and also became a venue for promoting, marketing and linking local producers and service providers with both retail and bulk buyers within the City.
Manila Program opens Muntinlupa Branch. UPLiFT's Manila Program opened its 6th branch in Muntinlupa City last July 2012 with its office located right in the heart of Alabang. This further expands UPLIFT’s outreach south of Metro Manila, providing financing schemes that address the needs of Micro Entrepreneurs in the area.

The branch office is conveniently located at the 2nd floor of Magdalena Building, along Montillano Street in Alabang.
